Wow what a start from this duo, absolutely loving this album, got a feeling my favourite track will be changing a lot, just so good...
Favorite track: Vijnana.
Polish duo Jazxing present their debut album ‘Pearls of the Baltic Sea’, eight original tracks that pay homage to the ‘80s Cosmic Classics found on Daniele Baldelli`s mixtapes and early ‘90s Balearic pop. Drawing from everyday life on the Baltic coast, the duo bring an edge to influences from inspirations such as Saint Etienne, Andrew Weatherall and Air via alternative deviations through New Wave, Post Punk, and Dub.
Musicians, producers and DJs Jakub Sautycz and Mateusz Filipiuk formed Jazxing in their hometown of Gdańsk, Poland. Integrated with the wider Balearic music scene, Jazxing are part of a growing group of colourful Polish artists, clubs and labels who want to share and inspire people with their passion for these sounds. Jazxing first went public on a Very Polish Cutouts release and since then the duo have graced Polena Recordings, Father And Son Records And Tapes, and Zambon`s Transatlantyk imprint. ‘Pearls of the Baltic Sea’ is filled with the depth of emotions, changing states of one’s spirit, and unpredictability of the Baltic weather, standing in contrast to their simple, but eloquent music forms.
Jazxing explain “We meant to produce an album that one can find nostalgic, and maybe an opportunity to stop for a while with one’s daily routine and look out of the box. To bring about good memories, focus on the details in life that make us happy, and stay there for a bit. We wanted to create a comfortable space for music lovers.”
Seabirds fly above synthetic strings, and sparse, peacefully plucked 6-string notes, on the slo-mo disco opener, *Fala*. The track`s growling post-punk funk groove further sweetened, softened, by ethereal vocals and a sultry sax solo.
W Uścisku, with a chorus that translates as “I`m in your arms, hold me in your arms”, is another slow, acidic, shuffle, which features some very fine vibes virtuosity, and the passionate vocals of Kamio Kozlowski - of fellow Poles, Van Cyklop.
Artifacts raids the archives, and rides an early `90s Soul II Soul-esque beat. Its purring, whispering vixen and cascading Italian house chords recalling the e`d up erotic chart machinations of Deep Forest, Innocence, Madonna, and Talcy Malcy.
Hyacinth is a wordless ballad, epic in ambition, accompanied by plaintive keys and arcs of whale-song-like guitar. A prog / space-rock moment for fans of A Mountain Of One.
Neu Nostalgia is a chunky, chugging, sorta Siouxsie Sue / Cure-like creation. Driven by the bass, but hanging on the ringing, razor-sharp, axe riffs.
Harbor Dub is a sludgy, squelchy skank, where psychedelic sound effects smash the singer into sexy splinters.
Shoegaze Dub keeps the extravagant echo and reverb, swapping, though, the Jamdown for the tremolo`d twang of a rock `n` roll rumble, while building up to some euphoric evangelically-edged piano.
Acoustic strumming is looped-up and layered to manufacture the closing *Vijnana*`s meditative musical mist. Additional picking providing the melody, as the b-line vamps on Coltrane, joining the dots, making the path plain, between A Love Supreme and severely sedated, stoned to say the least, house.

Intoxicating euphoric ethereal psychedelic soul at it’s very best … and I do mean intoxicating, as the adventure never rises above heartbeat level, locked into a slow-paced groove bewitched by R&B inspirations from the late 60s and early 70’s that reach out of the darkness with an easy going vibe of love, joy and happiness.
